Dalam sebuah pengakuan, Elton John mengatakan kalau ia baru mengenal cinta saat usianya menginjak 43 tahun. Itu semua terjadi karena gaya hidupnya yang liar sejak ia menjadi superstar di tahun 1964 lalu. Kini, saat usianya telah memasuki 63 tahun, dengan bangga Elton mengatakan kalau akhirnya ia menemukan cinta sejatinya.
Tahun 2005 lalu Elton John menikahi David Furnish yang ia kenal sejak tahun 1993 lalu dan sampai saat ini pasangan gay ini tetap hidup berdampingan. Setelah bertemu David Furnish, Elton mengaku mulai meninggalkan gaya hidupnya yang liar termasuk penyalahgunaan obat dan alkohol. Buat Elton, itulah yang menjadi pencapaian terbesarnya hingga saat ini.
